Hope you had a wonderful holiday season!
Two weeks ago, the Bus for Progress celebrated its second anniversary on the road.
What a year it was! We drove to Washington, DC, to join the largest US climate rally in history, rallied for GMO labeling outside the FDA HQ in Maryland, drove Senator Barbara Buono nearly 1,000 miles in her campaign against Chris Christie, rode in both the Asbury Park and NYC Pride parades for marriage equality, registered new voters at community colleges, visited 7 congressional offices in one day to support climate change action, gun control and immigration reform, and so much more. We also did trips solely for fun - like kayaking in the Pine Barrens, whitewater rafting in PA, holiday-themed fundraisers, and more. See Past Events for the full list. In all, the bus logged over 3,500 miles.
We want to thank our Art Director Toka Ball, whose efforts behind the scenes always make us look good! And of course, we have to thank those folks who supported the Bus financially by adopting seats, joining our Founding 40 Donors Plaque, and supporting our 2013 Voter Registration Fund. Not to mention those who joined as "Bus Drivers", and have already signed up to do the same for 2014! Your generosity is the reason the Bus runs so well, and is behind every improvement we've made. There are too many people to name here, so we've acknowledged everyone on this page.
And we want to thank the organizations we worked with in 2013, including Food & Water Watch, NJ Sierra Club, Delaware Riverkeepers Network, Monmouth County Democrats, Organizing for America, NJ Environmental Federation (now Clean Water Action), and Occupy Monsanto.
Most importantly, we want to thank all of you who took time from your busy lives to hop on the bus and make a difference. In the end, the Bus for Progress is just a bus. It is the people who ride within that make it so effective and fun!
Like you, our organization has resolutions for the New Year. We want to minimize the carbon footprint of the bus, and provide the same opportunity to our members! We hope to begin regularly powering the bus with bio-diesel fuel in 2014. And we have partnered with Viridian Energy to give our members the opportunity to power their homes with wind and solar. Stay tuned for announcements on both efforts.
We welcome your comments, suggestions and criticisms too. Let us know how we did in our second year, and how we can improve in 2014. Have an idea for a future trip, or another effective way to use the bus? Send us an email.
We cannot be more excited, or more grateful as we move forward to 2014. And we can't wait to see you on the Bus for Progress again, to share in our next adventure!
Best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year!
The interior is done and it looks great. Check out the pictures. Painting the outside is next. Thanks to everyone who voted on the design!
Yes, we're making progress! Andy just took a trip to North Carolina. Check out what he saw.
Andy and Toka delivered the bus to North Carolina for some major work - bathroom, paint job, generator, luggage compartment, and much more. It will be there for a few weeks. In the meantime, we need to start raising funds to pay for all that!
See pictures from the trip south.

The Bus for Progress is now a formal corporation registered in New Jersey. Andy, Kathy and Boris have developed a terrific vision of how Bus for Progress and its dedicated supporters can make a difference in how government serves the public. The plans for the renovation of the new bus are exciting, and the new programs the Bus for Progress team will pursue include education programs, transportation services, and social outreach. But it also has to be fun, and we've got lots of new ideas for ensuring that volunteering your time to the Bus for Progress mission is fun and rewarding for all. Looking forward to seeing the new wheels take shape so the Bus for Progress can get rolling!
We're working hard to get our new "Bus for Progress" venture up and running.
We have the communication tools in place - this website, Facebook and Twitter.
We've incorporated as a non-profit.
For those of you handy with tools, we'll continue to work on the new "Bus for Progress" at Andy's house in Jackson. We'll be replacing the ceiling panels and stripping the floor in preparation for the customization ahead. We'll end each day with a pizza party or BBQ. Stay tuned for announcements with details.
As you've done for so many years, we hope you'll stay involved as we move ahead. It's going to get exciting!
