As you know, the fight to keep natural gas "Fracking" out of NJ is heating up! NJ passed a one year moratorium to study Fracking, but that brief moratorium ends in 2013. Then what?
Fracking is being conducted with increased regularity next door in Pennsylvania. And pressures are mounting to allow the same practice in NJ.
If we are to be successful in stopping Fracking in NJ, we must fight it at every level.
A bill is coming before the Senate and Assembly to stop Fracking wastes from being treated and disposed in NJ. As you may have heard, some waste has already been treated in Elizabeth. In addition to containing numerous chemicals, some Fracking wastes also contain low levels of radioactivity!
Our friends at Food & Water Watch, the Sierra Club, and others are gathering together on Thursday, June 14th to lobby the Statehouse and show our representatives that its citizens are aware and involved. We know that Fracking threatens drinking water, public health and the environment!
The Bus for Progress has volunteered to make four stops in Monmouth and Ocean Counties to help bring volunteers to this important event. We want to make sure that our members have advanced notice to reserve their seats first!
See below for more details:
